I spent some of 2011 rehearsing with a new band project in Chiswick called Escapepod with good friends Paul Winter-Hart and Alex Dickson. In the time between commitments, touring and other music we’ve gotten together in a garage and produced about 8-10 song ideas and in the autumn we tracked up and finished 4 of them with the help of producer Alex Elena. Just before Christmas we sent off the song, ‘Floor’, to be the opening track for US indie film Dark Hearts which features Kyle Schmid and Sonja Kinski and hope very much to have at least an ep out in the not too distant future. I’ll link to sounds and songs as soon as they’re ready.

My main project for 2012 will be my own second album as it’s long overdue. I have the songs in demo form and have a good team of friends that will be involved with the complicated bits and parts. The very cool and kind people over at Lojinx will release it as they released Faction and I’m very excited and looking forward to put an all round better sounding and more hifi collection of songs together.

And what better way to start this year than with the news just in that the label Lojinx I’m with here in the UK has made the top 10 of best record labels in 2010 over on The Music Magazine website. Well done Andrew, Michelle and Ellie. You bloody rock!

In other news:

January is normally a quiet month for me, but this year I’ve already been rehearsing with a new, still unnamed, band project with old friends Alex Dickson and Paul Winter-Hart. We’ve set up camp in a garage in Chiswick to try beef, dust off and write to more than 2 hours worth of material we generated last year at The Premises in Hackney. If anything sounds good I’ll link to it.

Also, this weekend gone I’ve written lyrics for two songs that hopefully will make Danish singer and songwriter Morten Remar’s new album. Morten’s an old friend and a legend in Denmark having done more than most. I’ll also be in Copenhagen in February helping out with bass duties for the album.

Yesterday I had the random pleasure of speaking to Steve Lamacq on his 6music radio show. I was only really meant to pick my ‘good day/bad day’ track (The Posies ‘Dream All Day’) but we ended up talking music, first single ever bought, best and worst gigs and a bit about my doings on the music scene here in London.

Just a quick little update as Spring has properly arrived here in London, always a great time of year, people are out, things seem possible.. It’s a good feeling don’t you agree? Stuff is picking up too, more work, more gigs etc.. I had the pleasure of visiting Zürich (with Jamie Scott & The Town) for the first time earlier this month and what a posh and clean place that is.

We’ve slowly started the process of compiling a TRY ME single/EP, it looks like we’ll have 4-5 remixes on it. I have already received an excellent mix from top engineer and producer Steve Orchard (George Martin, Travis, U2, Paul McCartney etc). Still waiting for the rest and I also hope to ad a couple of bonus tracks from the ‘FACTION sessions’.

Apart from the gigs and the bits and bobs May looks chocker, in my spare time this month I’ll be on the set of Gulliver’s Travels, mainly at Pinewood playing a Royal Trumpeteer, yes, you heard right.. Jack Black is Gulliver so should be fun, I’ll try fill you in if 20th Century Fox doesn’t take me out..
